MIND OF THE UNIVERSE

This glasswork encircles the hollow core of the ballroom's oculus. During the day light floods through the installation making it appear almost transparent, like jellyfish in the ocean. At night, the sculpture's thousands of glass tubes form a complex, reflective sheen which picks up the surrounding colors of the room. In this way, it appears to "skin-over"-its contours more delineated and its presence more pronounced. This installation introduces a new flexible glass system, which was developed to allow us to effectively "sculpt" glass at room temperature and on site. Because the matrix has thousands of joints, it allows to build massive continuous glass elements-greater than would ever have been possible with rigid, kiln-formed constructions
